A Christmas market, like so many in Berlin this time of year.
Last Thursday, I visited one. There were ordinary and happy people. There were Christmas decorations, the sausages, mulled wine, there were so many children.
Our normality must appear as an intolerable insult in the mind of the crazy people who are threatening our way of life. They see it as something to be thrown down, in order to instill in our veins the same hatred that’s blinding them.
Once again, a brutal and cowardly act. Made against a Country that, unique in Europe, has welcomed all those who were escaping. A Country that has shown that people’s reasons, their needs, the need to be “human”, can overcome all fears.
And fear is the specter that these fools are raising in front of us, as the red flag that irritates the raging bull who’s lying asleep in our societies.
Berlin, once again, has not lost its composure and its grace and has dominated the panic.
We mourn for the people who died, and once again, more than ever, today we are all Berliners.
